  • Undergraduate and Masters opportunities

MChem and MSc research projects are available each year in the group. We can also support talented and committed undergraduate students for short research projects over summer funded by the RSC Undergraduate Research Bursaries.

  • PhD opportunities

*** We are currently looking for talented graduates from China to join the group for PhD research via the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) scheme. ***

The University of Leicester has a total of 25 fully-funded PhD scholarships available for a start date of September 2026. The scheme is highly competitive so only candidates with a masters degree (e.g. MSc) are likely to succeed. Applicants must satisfy the English language requirements (IELTS 6 or above).

There are two exciting CSC projects available in the group:

    (1) "Designing Sulfur-Rich Bimetallic Catalysts for CO2 Reduction"  (in collaboration with Dr Patricia Rodriguez-Macia)

    (2) "Sustainable Titanium Catalysts for the Synthesis of Biosourced Organic Carbonates" (in collaboration with Prof. Steve Bull)

Please do contact Sandy if you are interested to apply, with a recent CV and your motivation for project (1) or (2). I am happy to discuss with prospective students via email, WeChat or Zoom, and give support and guidance on completing the CSC application form before the deadline 11 December 2025.

Specific PhD positions will be advertised here. Other sources of funding include: Commonwealth scholarships (non-UK applicants), John Monash scholarships (Austrialian applicants), Doctoral loans (UK applicants).
